Where were you born?:   Revati was born in Pune and Charles in Bengaluru, India.

Where do you live?:  We live in Mumbai, the home of Bollywood, Bazaars and Bhel!

As travel bloggers, we’re advertising people by profession, cooks by passion, and travellers at heart. We believe in travelling close to the ground, not signing up for travel tours, living like locals as far as possible, making detailed plans (and throwing them away when we need to), diving into research, living it up when we can, living it down when we need to, finding rarely visited secrets, experimenting with food, learning a little of the local cuisine and travelling slow.

Travel Style

How would you describe your travel style?  

Frankly our travel style is always changing, adapting to different regions we discover, the local customs and as our awareness of the world grows. While we enjoy slow travel the most, it isn’t always possible with our short trips (since we have jobs in India) but one thing we always strive to do is travel close to the ground. And food is definitely one way of peeling back the curtains to a people and their culture. We enjoy a little luxury and definitely some history.

What’s your earliest travel memory?

We’ve both been on several trips with our respective families as kids, but together, and on the blog, our first trip together was probably our honeymoon to Mauritius where we enjoyed the sun, sea, sand and culinary extravaganza. It was a smorgasbord of new cuisines for us borrowing from Creole to Chinese to European and even some Indian!

When researching travel destinations, how important are food/drink choices and experiences to your overall decision-making process?

We’ve thrown away the whole idea of exploring the towns in the hunt for a fabulous restaurant in the Tuscan town of Siena, we’ve ensured our travel dates coincide with our reservation at Tickets in Barcelona, and we’ve always tried to take up a local cooking class on each trip. Where and what we’re going to eat is an equally important part of our itinerary planning!

Culinary traveler or food explorer?  Which do you relate to more?

Will travel for food. So it’s really a bit of both. While we certainly enjoy those “once in a lifetime” restaurants where you need to book months in advance to sample a tasting menu we also enjoy discovering street food hidden in a tiny lane somewhere that’s supposed to have the best of some local delicacy. In fact, friends of ours call us “Biryani and Champagne”. Charles does tend to lean towards spicy, meaty, rustic food whereas I like delicate, fresh and trendy food. But we try not to discriminate and definitely enjoy both.

If we ask your best friends if you’re a foodie, what would they say?

They’ll nod vehemently because they’re probably the same. What can we say, food is a big part of our lives and those we share it with!

What’s in your carry-on? Any essential food or kitchen tools you won’t leave home without?

We always try to eat local wherever we go, so even if we’re whipping something up it’s either at a cooking class or after scouring the local markets and we’ve always found everything we need. No we don’t have to have our chilli and curry powders contrary to what everyone thinks about Indian travellers.  So we don’t carry anything to the destination. The loot we bring back home though, that’s another story entirely!

What’s the most unusual food you’ve eaten?

Razor Clams in Barcelona. We did try to find Percebe but unfortunately we couldn’t.

If we handed you a ticket to anywhere in the world, where would you go?

Europe. Anywhere in Europe is fine!

What’s the best culinary travel experience you’ve ever had?

As a single experience Tickets in Barcelona pulled out some fabulous tapas that literally blew our mind. We ate 17 courses that day. But as a destination, I’d say Australia has the most innovative and incredible chefs putting out food that’s way ahead of the curve.

Any great travel tips to share?

Research the food before you go. It isn’t worth the risk of having mediocre meals to just play it by ear.
