Sweet Dreams are Made of These

Pair Icewine and Chocolate to Delight Your Senses

Canada is renowned worldwide for its decadent and delicious Icewines, and leave it to Canadians to devise new and creative ways to enjoy this sweet elixir.  Like in a chocolate shooter cup.

The Icewine shooter is as unique and tasty as Icewine itself,” says Marcel Morgenstern, a sommelier and national sales manager with Pondview Estate Winery. “It is an excellent combination of two great flavours. It goes well as an accompaniment with your dessert, or all on its own. In restaurants, it is a new and different way to make your drink and dessert menu stand above the crowd.

Served in 70% dark Belgian chocolate cups, the idea is to sip and savour the Icewine, then pop the chocolate into your mouth. The pairing works magically because the wine is sweeter than the chocolate.

What kind of Icewine you put in the cups depends on the dessert you’re serving. If you’re having crème brûlée, make a shooter with Vidal Icewine. If you’re serving dark chocolate-dipped strawberries, fill the cup with a luscious Cabernet Franc Icewine.

If the shooter is your dessert, be adventurous and experiment with different Icewines to find what flavor combination you like best. Other grape varieties include Riesling, Gewürztraminer, Merlot, Pinot Gris, Chardonnay, Muscat Ottonel, and Gamay. You can even buy sparkling Icewines.

Icewine shooters are incredibly versatile,” says Morgenstern. “Be creative when trying them at home. Pester your server at your favourite restaurant. A 50ml bottle of Icewine and three-pack of chocolate cups makes a great take away gift for the guests at your wedding. Drop into the winery to taste which one is the winner for you: Vidal or Cabernet Franc!”

The Ice wine tour would be fantastic.
I just hope we have a white Christmas because it’s something I wouldn’t mind doing in a picturesque vineyard covered in snow.
